K-1 Multi-age

Mrs. Vicars & Ms. Harris

What is Multiage Education?

The deliberate placing of different age children in the same classroom. Students are grouped with a focus on developmental appropriateness. The child comes first, and lessons are geared accordingly. Communities are kept together for a minimum of two consecutive years becoming more than a class but a family.

K1 has a group of teachers, student teachers, and instructional assistants while collaborating to ensure we can reach every child. This year we will also have Ms. Melissa to support our K1 community.

Hi! My name is Courtney Harris. I grew up in Springfield, Missouri and moved to Mesa in August of 2021. This is my third year of teaching (and in K1), and I am so glad to be here at Zaharis for my journey.

I have 2 cats at home and love to be outdoors. I enjoy taking care of and growing plants, being crafty, and baking. I am engaged and will be married in the summer of 2025!

Hi! Chelsea Vicars here. I was originally born in Reading, Pennsylvania and moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1998. I moved up to the Phoenix area in 2008 and have been here ever since.

This is my 12th year teaching at Zaharis, but I student taught here for a year before that. This is the 8th year of K1, and previously I taught kindergarten.

I've been married to my husband Mark since 2018 and we've been together since 2015 after reuniting years after high school. I have a 4 year old-Parker, and a 1 year old-Bryce. I'm thrilled to be raising two boys and can't wait to see who they become.
